Hua Hin developed at its own leisurely pace, both as an aristocratic resort with the added attraction of an 18-hole golf course, and as a fishing port.

This resort town was discovered in the early 1920s by King Rama VII as the perfect place to escape from the sultry metropolitan area of Bangkok. The peaceful fishing village was transformed into a Royal Resort and as a result became popular among Siam's nobility and upper-class.

The construction of a railway line from Bangkok ensured its accessibility and attractiveness with a wider part of the Thai public. But it was the resort's Royal approval which has given Hua Hin a unique character of its very own. In 1928, King Rama VII built his Klai Kangwon (Far From Worries) Palace which remains to this day as an official Royal Residence. It is quite frequently used by members of the Royal Family and is open to the public for visits.

Hua Hin developed at its own leisurely pace, both as an aristocratic resort with the added attraction of an 18-hole golf course, and as a fishing port. Today's Sofitel Central Hua Hin was originally The Railway Hotel, and was built by the State Railways of Thailand in 1923 in the architectural style of old Siam.

Many of Bangkok's wealthy and illustrious built their own beachfront summer homes to the north and south against the curving sandy bay, taking pleasure in relaxing family weekends in a resort which has maintained its distinctive individuality.

Hua Hin has every element for a very extraordinary holiday experience. The town still emanates an exceptional ambiance combined with classical old world charm.
